Chesapeake TASTE writing opportunities:

Chesapeake TASTE celebrates the culture and cuisine of the Maryland Chesapeake Bay area. We help our readers get to know—intimately, not superficially—the people, places, styles, events, and flavors that make living and working here special. We emphasize great storytelling, not gimmicks. All articles, whether features or departments, start with people first.

  • Possess in-depth knowledge of area trends
  • Are willing to get out in the community and dig for stories, especially under-the-radar issues
  • “Get” what makes the Maryland Chesapeake area unique and know how to celebrate it

Have inside information about and passion for:

  • local communities
  • boating
  • local restaurants/chefs
  • locally made items
  • local artists and musicians

Skills:

  • Strong in-person interviewing skills – Are you good with people and can get them to open up?
  • Write in-depth profiles that tell a larger story
  • Tell a story succinctly when needed and still make it interesting
  • Think outside-the-box regarding presentation of print materials
  • Create ancillary materials (photos, video) that enhance the article and extends it online
  • Think beyond print – understand how to handle content to include print and web components
