Anne Arundel Community College welcomes new president

Anne Arundel Community CollegeWhether you call it Harvard on the Bay, A-squared C-squared or even University of Maryland College Parkway, the Anne Arundel Community College is a vibrant place for all learners.

Now, college president, Martha A. Smith, is retiring after 18 years. In her place this fall will be Dawn Lindsay, a native of Maryland.

Since 2009, Dr. Lindsay served as president of Glendale Community College in Glendale, Calif. There she oversaw a combined college and state-allocated budget of $157 million. She has more than 25 years experience in higher education.

"The board unanimously felt Dr. Lindsay had the leadership qualities, experience and commitment to excellence to meet AACC's mission mandates and build upon the college's stellar reputation,"  said Victoria K. Fretwell, chair of the Board of Trustees.

The college received 120 applications nationwide. The search was narrowed down to 12 candidates, who were interviewed by a Search and Screening Committee led by trustee and former chair, James H. Johnson, Jr., and made up of board, faculty, staff, and community members. Three top candidates were invited back to the AACC campus to meet further with the college's eight-member Board of Trustees and the wider college community before a final decision was made.
