Hobo bags merge function and beauty

image of Hobo bag Creator and her daughter setting on their stoopToni Ray and her daughter, Koren, had a big decision to make back in 1991. As they excitedly arranged their leather handbags in the rented 5-foot by 10-foot space at the New York City Fashion Accessory Expo, they both realized that the space was too small to showcase their goods.

They needed to upgrade to a bigger space, but they had run out of money. Toni had already cashed in her retirement savings to pay for the manufacture of the handbags. These were the first that Toni had created independently, away from the Washington, DC, leather goods retailer where she had worked for nearly 25 years.

The images come back easily to Koren. "The bags were beautiful. We loved them."

But how could they afford to give their bags a proper debut?
