The Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center ArtLAB invites people of all ages to make whimsical art with artist-in-residence Dale Wayne.This public art project is taking place now through August 26.

No matter your age and artistic prowess (or lack thereof), you will be able to help Wayne create, "a glittery forest of bottle blossom trees made from salvaged plastic bottles." Director of development and marketing Jackie Sudore-Flood says, "Everyone who comes in loves it."

Wayne, who is in residence from Florida, was inspired by the African tradition of hanging bottles on trees. The project ties together the beauty of creating, and the beauty of nature, into her work.

The arts center created the artist-in-residence program, "to get the community involved in the arts," says Sudore-Flood. The activity itself is called the public art project, bringing art and the community together.

Wayne's method for creating the bottle trees was developed while teaching in Orlando. "I was working in glass and was trying to figure out a way to translate that medium into a classroom setting. My dad, who is a sculptor, showed me how he was able to manipulate plastic to make armatures...I wondered if I could paint plastic bottles and use heat to make them take on a glass-like quality. It wasn't long before I had a classroom of students diving into the project and going home in glitter from head-to-toe," Wayne said.

Her project for the center is the perfect fun summer activity for the weekend. Pack up the car; bring the kids and some bottles if you can! But don't worry; the event is not solely BYOB. There is a supply of bottles available to paint and create at the artLAB. Sudore-Flood emphasizes that the activity is for all people to participate in, no matter their age

Annmarie Garden's 2012 Annual Summer Public Art Project is a collaborative project for all ages and is included with site admission. The activity takes place in the artLAB, 1:00– 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday, and Sunday.
